Jerry Malina

I started playing in 1979 at Kent State U.

I  then played for Akron RFC. Several teammates and I decided to escape the brutal winters and accept an offer to play for the Fort Myers Olde Greys. We won a state championship in 7s and 15s and I was selected several times to the Florida select side.

I also played many years for the South select side. I received an offer to try out for the Eastern Rugby union and toured with them to Bermuda. I then accepted a full scholarship offer to Life University where I played for 5 years also playing for the Georgia Selects. I  continued to represent the Eastern Rugby Union for 8 ITTs against the West, Midwest, and Pacific Selects from which the US Eagles were selected and toured with the ERU to Ireland and then Scotland.

Upon graduation as a Doctor of Chiropractic degree I accepted a job offer and moved to Lafayette and played for Baton Rouge RFC.

My next job brought me to New Orleans and the NORFC who I captained and played out my career with. I also played for the Deep South Selects. I transitioned to coaching with NORFC with 2 national championships with first our Gold, then our Green side.

I also lead the La. Exiles U-20s to 3 consecutive Rocky Mountain championships against the best U-20 teams in the country and have been a long time coach at Brother Martin HS as well as Loyola university and recently newly reformed UNO RFC.
